Privacy statement

How Sweet As Creative Collective handles your personal information.

1. Who we are

sweetas.cc is the website of Sweet As Creative Collective, a design and prototyping studio based in Wānaka, New Zealand. The studio is operated by Obtainment Limited. In this statement, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Obtainment Limited.

We follow the Privacy Act 2020. Our privacy officer is John Mezger, who you can reach at hello@sweetas.cc.

2. What we collect

We collect only what we need for each purpose, and almost always directly from you.

WhenWhat we collect
You register for updatesYour email address and, if you choose to tell us, where you ski most, which ski interests you and a name suggestion for the brand.
You register to become a testerYour name, email address, where you ski most, which ski you are interested in, what you tell us about how you ski, and your confirmation that you are 18 or over.
You use the Ski DesignerYour drafts are saved in your own browser and are not sent to us. If you submit a design, we receive the design, the name you choose to be credited by, and any contact details you send with it.
You email usYour name, contact details and whatever you include in your message.
You visit the siteOur website host keeps standard technical logs, such as IP addresses and browser type, for security and to keep the site running. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.

Please do not send us health or injury information through the website. If we ever need it to run a test day safely, we will explain why at the time, ask only for what is necessary and keep it separate from your other details.

3. How we use it

We use your information to:

  • send you the updates you registered for, such as prototype, testing and release news
  • consider tester registrations and organise testing
  • design, test and improve our skis, including our research into New Zealand materials and manufacturing
  • consider designs and name suggestions you send us
  • report on our research to research partners and funders, using de-identified or combined results unless you agree otherwise
  • reply to your messages and meet our legal obligations.

Email updates. We only email you if you have registered or asked us to. Every email says who it is from and includes a working unsubscribe link, and we act on unsubscribe requests within five working days. Registering as a tester does not add you to the updates list unless you also register for updates.

We do not sell your personal information or use it for anyone else’s marketing.

4. Who we share it with

  • Service providers who run parts of the site for us. Our website is hosted by Netlify, which also stores the forms you submit. Netlify is based in the United States and stores data outside New Zealand. Our email provider stores the emails we send and receive. These providers hold your information on our behalf and may use it only to provide their service to us.
  • Google Fonts. Our pages load fonts from Google, so your browser connects to Google’s servers, which receive your IP address.
  • Research partners and funders involved in our research and development. We share de-identified or combined test results. If we ever need to share something that identifies you, we will ask first.
  • Our manufacturing partners, for de-identified test feedback that informs changes to the skis.
  • Insurers and advisers, if needed to deal with an incident or claim.
  • Anyone else the law requires or permits, for example where it is necessary to prevent a serious threat to someone’s health or safety.

If we send identifiable information to an organisation overseas that is not acting only on our behalf, we will make sure it is protected in a way comparable to New Zealand law, or ask for your agreement first.

5. Photos, video and your feedback

We document our design and testing in the open, so test days are often photographed or filmed. We ask before we take identifiable photos or video of you, and before we publish them. If we quote your test feedback, we will use your first name and region only unless you agree to more. You can ask us to stop using a photo, video or quote of you at any time, and we will remove it from our site and channels within a reasonable time.

6. Storage, security and how long we keep it

We store your information with the providers named above, protected by access controls and two-factor authentication. Only people who need it for the purposes above can see it.

InformationHow long we keep it

If a privacy breach is likely to cause anyone serious harm, we will tell the people affected and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as soon as practicable.

7. Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Email hello@sweetas.cc and we will respond within 20 working days. There is no charge.

If you have a concern, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

8. Browser storage, age and changes

Browser storage. The Ski Designer saves your drafts, and Ski Lab Spin remembers whether you chose the White or Black look, in your browser’s own storage. These stay on your device, are not sent to us, and clearing your browser data deletes them.

Age. Registering for updates and using the Ski Designer are open to people aged 16 or over. Testers must be 18 or over.

Changes. We may update this statement as the project grows, for example when we open a shop. We will post the new version here with its date.
